“Change
is the rule of life”
The
founder of the Christian Brothers, Edmund Rice, came from a wealthy family in
Ireland. Excelling in his family business and with being very successful
financially, he was living a peaceful life. However, within a few years of his
stable life, a series of incidents changed the very script of his life. He lost
his beloved wife to a sudden, tragic death. As he struggled day and night to
make sense of the loss, he receives a message from God to find peace through
serving the poor, the destitute and those in darkness. Accordingly, he
sacrifices everything of his life to improve the situation of outcasts and
oppressed youth. He fed the hungry, clothed the naked and most importantly
educated the lost youth.
What
began as the Congregation of Christian Brothers in a small town of Waterford,
Ireland in 1802, made its first entry into India in 1890 spreading its sole
charism of educating youth. But it was only in 1977, that the Brothers made
their way to the rural village of Bajpe and took charge of St Joseph’s
Composite P U College. In recognition of their selfless contribution,
prescribed by their founder, Edmund Rice; to celebrate their four-decade-long
commitment in Bajpe and to wish them all the success in their in their future
endeavours we compile this magazine.
With
the request of the management, the Principal, and all the staff, I feel humbled
and honoured to take on this responsibility, with the support of all of you, of
coordinating the compilation of this souvenir.
On
this memorable occasion, I am very grateful to our correspondent, Br. Len
Noronha, for fine-tuning all the write-ups and arranging them meaningfully; to our principal, Br. Hector for his constant support and
guidance; to the editorial team, for their active participation and wisdom; to
all writers, for sharing your valuable sentiments and memories; and to all of
you, the staff, students and ex-students for coming together to bring out the
specialness of this moment.
I am also thankful to all the advertisers for
your generosity; and to Assisi printers, for quality work.
To
end, I pray that the on-going service of the Christian Brothers may touch the
lives of numerous more needy people in the world. May the love and peace of
Christ continue to guide you and may He grant you good health, happiness and
everything that you need.
