The alma mater means a bountiful
mother. To provide a student such a motherly care, the institution should have
a committed staff—teaching and non-teaching – who could understand the needs of
the students and the expectations of the parents and follow the directions of
the management, to the satisfaction of all. The institution is made up of all
these people. Their responsibilities may be different but the purpose is the
same. Credit must go to the Christian Brothers for the efficient management at
the same time it is apt to remember the unflinching effort of the office staff
in helping to carry out the mission of the Brothers.
The Christian Brothers are not merely
called brothers, but they treat others also as brothers and sisters. They
remind us what the word really means and encourage us to render smiling service
especially with regard to office work. The office-staff of St. Joseph’s P U
College has a special role. They are responsible to the local
administrators—the Christian Brothers, the management—Catholic Board of
Education, and the Department of Education as it is an aided institution. The
office heads must be especially skilful in balancing things in this triangle of
power. But they up to the expectations as both the P U College and the High
School office clerks are very experienced Because of their long service. In
spite of being an aided institution, the college has many non-teaching posts
vacant because of retirement or resignation. It has not been possible to fill
the vacancies due to economy measure and other rules of the government. The number of students is increasing year by
year and the department is also seeking additional information which means
additional work for the already dwindling staff. However, the smile on the face
of the staff never faded while receiving whoever comes to the office. The non-teaching
staff has achieved near perfection in either maintaining the accounts or in
public relations or facilitating the students in getting their scholarships and
other facilities from the government.
Office-staff is ever grateful to
Christian Brothers for enabling them to render sufficient and cheerful service
to the students. The P U College office-staff, under the leadership of Mr.
David D’souza who has worked under all the Christian Brother principals, is
rendering impeccable service. Similarly the High School office-staff is ably
led by Mrs. Severin Veigas. It is a coincidence that both of these stalwarts
are retiring at the same time as the Brothers are departing.
The administrative staff of the
institution is grateful to the Christian Brothers and wishes them all the
success in their journey ahead.
