Rev Fr. Bernard L. D’Souza- A Great Visionary


Rev. Fr. Bernard L D’Souza was born on March 11, 1936 as a proud son of Basil D’Souza and Mary Pinto of Agrar in Bantwal.  He completed his graduation and post graduation from Karnatak University, Dharwar. He got his B. Ed. from University of Mysore. He was ordained as a priest in Mangalore on December 3, 1962. He was an active member of the Lions Club and held the President’s post in various  clubs.

Fr. Bernard  was the principal of St Joseph’s Junior College from 1972 to 1979. He always favoured the imparting of education to the rural and poor section of society who are the most in need of being able to read, write, understand and think for themselves.

Fr. Bernard was a good and able administrator. He was able to achieve maximum fruits from the minimum resources at his disposal. He always fought for justice. He provided the best facilities and infrastructure for the institutions in which he served . His main purpose in life was to help the downtrodden and poor people. He was very outgoing, outspoken and friendly by nature. His friendly and cheerful disposition helped him to overcome many difficulties.

Finally, Rev. Fr. Bernard was a great teacher from whom all of us have learned much and will continue to learn. Fr. Bernard breathed his last breath on February 4th when he was 70.  May his soul rest in peace.
