THE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT - Mr Joseph Peter Nazareth , Lecturer in Economics



THE  COMMERCE DEPARTMENT
To cater to the needs of the people of Bajpe and neighbouring villages, in 1972, St. Joseph’s High School of Bajpe Parish was granted ‘Pre-University College’ status.
 The department of Arts and the department of Commerce were introduced and nourished through the efficient administration of the educationists and eminent principals, Rev. Fr. Bernard F. D’Souza, Rev. Br. C. J. Harrison, Rev. Br. Wilfred D’Souza, Rev. Br. Conrad D’Souza ,Rev. Br. Charles D’Souza  and Rev. Br. Hector B. N. Pinto.
In the commerce department, the subjects like Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Statistics and History were introduced. Presently in the commerce department, the subjects like Computer Science and Basic Mathematics have also been introduced by Rev. Br. Hector B. N. Pinto.
The credit goes to Rev. Fr. Bernard F. D’Souza for appointing very highly deciplined, efficient and hard-working staff for the commerce department in its infant stage.
The commerce department salutes Late Sri. Joseph V. Thattil, lecturer in Commerce and accountancy, Late Sri. Rohan O. S. Mendonca,  lecturer in Commerce and Accountancy, Late Smt. Gracy D’Sa, lecturer in Economics and Late Sri. Venkatesh Udupa, lecturer in Kannada. The Principal, staff and students of the Commerce department, pray  Almighty God to grant them eternal peace.
The commerce department also remembers and praises the selfless services rendered by Sri. Jayaram Bhat K., lecturer in Statistics(Rtd.), Rev. Br. Charles H. D’souza, lecturer in History (and also the former principal in-charge), Sri. Ramakrishna Udupa, lecturer in English, Sri. Ramprasad,  lecturer in Kannada, Smt. Agnes Geetha Fernandes, lecturer in Hindi, Smt. Renny Saldanha, lecturer in English, Sri. Joseph Peter Nazareth, lecturer in Economics, Sri. Harish Aithal, lecturer in Statistics, Smt. Preethi D’Souza, lecturer in History, Sri. Arun F. Sequeira, lecturer in Computer Science, Sri Olwin Menezes, lecturer in Computer Science, Smt. Lavita Correa, lecturer in Economics, Smt. Mamitha Subramani, lecturer in Commerce and Accountancy, Smt. Alvita Pinto, lecturer in Commerce and Business studies.
As a result of the dedicated service of its faculty, the commerce department made remarkable progress and secured State-level ranks and distinctions and put many achievements in its basket right from 1972 till today.
The department of Commerce has expanded into four sections (two sections in 1st year P.U.C. and two sections in 2nd year P.U.C.). All these sections have 80 plus students in each of them.
To cater the needs of the present students, various groups in the department of Commerce are offered as follows:
a). Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Statistics.
b). Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, History.
c). Accountancy, Business Studies, Statistics, Computer Science.
d). Accountancy, Business Studies, Statistics, Basic Mathematics.
Over the years the annual result of 2nd P.U.C. Commerce department has been progressing in quality and quantity. We feel proud to say that, in 1974 Mr. Joseph Fernandes secured 10th rank in Commerce. The department of Commerce has been securing an average result of 98% from 1972 to 2017. The majority of our students have been securing good marks with distinctions. There were 28 distinctions in the year 2013-14 in Commerce department.
We hope and pray Almighty God that he may showers His blessings on our institution for its further growth in imparting quality and quantity education to the youth of Bajpe and its neighbourhood.
